Damselflies and geese

I know, I know: it's not one of my more creative post titles...

Today we had one of those weird summer days where one minute it looks like it's going to rain buckets, and the next it's blue skies and white clouds. Since I'd heard there was a decent possibility of showers during the afternoon, when my lunch hour rolled around I decided to take advantage of the lack of precipitation while I could, just in case.

The first thing I saw when I stepped out back was this crow, which took off shortly after I'd gotten this particular image:

I went over to the edge of the pond, which is still sporting plenty of Forget-me-nots:

Not to mention the damselflies:

I was particularly lucky while looking for damselflies to photograph, as this one landed right in front of me and then started in on its own lunch

After work I decided to head over to the grocery store to pick up a few essentials, and as I drove by the large field next to Orvis (where the truck caught fire earlier this month) I saw a family of Canada Geese out grabbing a bite to eat. I pulled over, got out of the car, approached as close as I dared (not very—geese can be mean, especially when their goslings are involved), and started clicking:

It's so fluffy...

The parents were never too far away as the kids explored and ate:

A couple of family portraits to close things out:

  2. The forget-me-nots are so pretty.

I like your photos better than the ones in the plant and bird guide books - yours are easier to focus on, and probably just plain better photography.

Those fuzzy geese are Just Too Cute.

  3. Great pictures of the geese! But yes, geese are mega mean--gaze upon them from afar.
