So many "reel" puns, so little time...

It was another dreary and overcast day in these parts, so instead of wandering around outside on my lunch hour to see if I could find something to photograph I thought, "You know, you work at a museum—there's tons of stuff you can take pictures of right here."

Which brings us to today's post. In previous years, folks who worked for the museum tended to accept donations of all sorts of fishing equipment, even though the museum was—and still is—dedicated to fly fishing. This means we have all kinds of reels in the collection (as well as rods and other fishing equipment) that were designed for trolling or spin fishing—including the ones pictured here. There's no rhyme or reason to what I chose to photograph; I selected the ones I did simply because they were right there on the shelves and I thought they looked interesting. A smart person would have kept track of the reels she chose and jotted down pertinent and interesting historical information to share; as it was me, you just get the visuals this time around:
