Horsing around

After spending the morning going through some of my accumulated mail and doing a load of laundry, I decided to take a drive to see if I could find something to photograph. I cruised along Rte 313 until I hit the VT/NY border, but nothing really grabbed me. So on my way back home I made a detour up Sandgate Road, then to SE Corners Road—a dirt road that took me further up into the mountains. There, I came across a small brook conveniently near a driveway, enabling me to pull over and take some photos. Not only was the water pretty, but the greenery nearby really popped in the afternoon sunlight:

I had gone by a small farm just after I got onto SE Corners Road and noticed they had some horses in a pasture right alongside the road. I noticed they were a bit shaggy thanks to their winter coats, but didn't stop because I was a) right next to a house and b) being pursued by a border collie taking its guard duties very seriously. I mentally shrugged and figured "Ah well, would've been nice." But as I drove back down toward the farm on my way home, I spotted the horses again—and they were now grazing a few hundred feet up the road. Since I hadn't seen another car while I'd been there, I decided I was safe just pulling off to the side, especially as I planned on staying close enough to move my car quickly if needs be. Even better, the horses were obliging enough to hang around for me, which I greatly appreciated:

  1. Those would make a great set of postcards, and I mean that as a compliment. Really, really beautiful pastoral wonderfulness.

  2. These are gorgeous! I really like the lacy effect of the evergreen branches against the snow and the green with the babbling brook contrasted with the snow still on the ground. The horses are stunning!
