A bit of the outdoors

Just a pair of pictures today, taken when I went exploring behind the post office here in Arlington. I was thinking I'd check out the Canada geese I could hear on the pond back there, but they were too far away from the shore to end up as anything but a dot in the frame. So I wandered along for a bit, trying to both scan my surroundings for things to photograph and avoid stepping in deer droppings. A bit of red on the ground caught my eye, and when I crouched down I discovered it was a wild strawberry. Considering it's been there since last summer, I thought it was in pretty good shape:

I shot the second pic when I went down to the very edge of the pond to take a quick look around; I just liked the contrast between the dead vegetation, the sunken log, and the color of the water:

  1. Mmmmm. My mother bought strawberries. What a pretty bit of color that was. I'm sure I'd have missed it completely. You have a very good eye for composition and detail. I'm really enjoying watching your journey.
